• Composition: Similar to 304 but adds 2-3% Molybdenum.
• Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to chlorides (salt) and acids. This is critical because salt water attacks the protective layer of 304, causing pitting corrosion.

• Cost: Premium price (due to Molybdenum).

Verdict: If it touches salt water or harsh chemicals, you must use SS316.

How to Tell the Difference?

Visually, they look identical (shiny silver).

1. Chemical Test: A drop of acid test solution (Moly Drop) will turn dark on SS316 but not on SS304.
